Any student of American history can point to 100 years ago and tell you that we are basically doing a rehash. The 1920s saw the rebirth of the Klu Klux Klan, the organization that wanted desperately to redo the recent Civil War that the South lost just a short 50 years before.

History buffs understand that the Southern aristocracy never went away. They were able to convince poor people back in the 1850s that slavery and their feudal agrarian society was the culture they needed to preserve.

The modern version of that upper crust class continues to preach the Confederacy doctrine of white supremacy and male privilege. What was old is new again.
