Great rant.
As a retired marketing dude, I can attest to the truth of this post. Here's the thing; when it comes to earning a lot of money, it's all about marketing and messaging to the people who pay us. There's art and there's commerce.
To be successful, you need to be able to reach the people whose dopamine levels spike when triggered by the right prompts. That's it. What most of us really struggle with is attracting enough hormone junkies. After all, we all crave the hormone high.
For professionals in marketing, finding those people and uncovering what triggers them is like prospecting for gold; that's their full time job. People are either buying into hope or fear. Every product or idea passes through the process of eventually boiling down to hope or fear.
Talent is secondary because we all know examples of people who have become phenomenally wealthy only because they appeal to a certain slice of the public. Some hit it on a lucky streak while others work their way up for years to become overnight successes.
It doesn't matter.
Staying on top requires that we keep the crowd happy or thrilled.
My compliments to those who take the time to hone their craft even as they realize that the money part only comes when enough people get that chemical hit.
