Taking an Existing Domain as Your Own
Your authority site will cover a range of topics within a broad niche. We used the example of knives or blades so far. An authority site can cover a lot of ground and still rank for high-quality keywords without having the name of the niche in its domain or URL.
Think about it for a second. What is Wikipedia? How about Amazon? What does Twitter actually mean, anyway?
There are quite a lot of domains out there that have been created and used for a few decades that just sound catchy but are no longer in use. They may have a lot of back links and authority from Google but are defunct.
I’m not going to get into the weeds about domain authority and the alphabet soup of surrounding valuation. I’m going to give you an option to find domains you can use to connect to your website for instant credibility.
There are a few caveats to consider, so don’t skim this session. Pay attention. Come back to it a few times to refresh yourself when you’re ready to get started.

There are domains on sale for tens of thousands of dollars. Just like physical real estate, domains are like street addresses. A choice spot in Beverly Hills will not have the same value as an address in West Adams.
