Let’s have some fun with niche research. I know that fun and research aren’t two words that should be paired together, but we’re determined to make it happen in this installment.

Okay, let’s get serious about niche selection. As mentioned in the last session, we need to pay attention to the intent of the niche. We’re planning to be connected to it for more than a year (or more) so we’ll want something that has lots of depth and breadth. That means it has to hold our interest (as well as our visitors’) while benefitting them. We’ll start with Wikipedia.

An Authority Wiki for Your Niche

Since an authority niche is a wide selection, chances are, there’s a Wikipedia entry about it. Remember, authority sites are built on multiple subsets of a very broad niche. For example, “dogs” is a very broad niche. Within that subject, you can compile many subsets.

I mentioned the knife industry as an example. We’re aiming to continue to use that as our test niche. You can substitute your own choice as we proceed along. I head over to Google and start my search with background searches.

Your Niche’s Wikipedia Entry Should Be Packed
