The voting number are telling. Although the GOP had a 51 to 18 win, they did most of that winning in the South. Even then, it was not substantial by any means. The Senate is still in Democratic hands and the House lead is so small that the new Speaker will have a difficult time fighting with his own members to get much done in the next two years.

The best GOP strategy at this point is to give up on the reductionist conservative scam and develop the party platform based on what Americans really want. Perhaps offer practical ideas that don't necessarily come from their libertarian billionaire backers or megachurch donors.
